20 minute ‘microteaching’:objects and artefacts

learning activity for your group based around an object.

the idea of slow looking was important to me.
I am concerned that I rush through my taught technical sessions and dont allow students time to form their own impressions and questions.
3 minutes felt like a long time

Microteach session Monday 7th February

Students currently choose to specialise in 1 of 4 specialisms Print Knit Weave and Stitch.

This 20 minute session could be part of an introduction to Year 1 students on the Textiles Programme. E.g.

  • Print technician presents a domestic knitting machine to stitch students
  • Stitch technician presents silk screen to weave students
  • Weave technician presents a domestic sewing machine to knit students
  • Knit technician presents a table loom to print students.

I enjoyed this group learning activity. My classmates were engaged and actively participated in the 20 minute session, this made the session lively and I hope informative. We did not manage to discuss all the questions on my list because the students were talking alot. I felt this was positive. My teacher suggested that the questions we had not covered in the 20 minutes could be homework which I thought was a good idea.
